Setrank - Controlling access to commands

Commands in this set - 'setrank. 'showranks

Command - `setrank
Syntax - ``setrank [(rank)]

Command - `showranks
Syntax - `showranks

Arguments?
`setrank has two arguments
command the name of the command you are setting or checking the rank on (required)
rank the rank you are setting the command to (optional). If you leave the rank off, 'setrank will display the current rank setting for the command instead of setting it.

'showranks has no arguments

What it does - `setrank and `showranks allow you to see and/or change what access level is set for each command

Details - Palace determines who can use what commands by use of a ranking system. The 'ranks' of users are ...
Rank 0 - guest - no client reg code
Rank 1 - Registered member - has a client reg code
Rank 2 - Wizard/Operator
Rank 3 - God/Owner

Checking Rank Settings - In order to see what rank is currently set for a command, you have two options

Checking rank for all commands
Type `showranks - You will get a list in your log window like this...
*** ; Command ranks (default rank in () if rank has been changed):
'allowedurls 3
'allowoperators 3
'authoring 3
'autoannounce 2

Checking rank for a single command - Type `setrank 'command
(replace 'command with the name of the command you are checking)
Example - 'setrank 'kill will check the rank of the 'kill command.
The output of this command will look like this...
*** `kill is currently set to rank 2

Setting the rank for a command - To change the rank setting of a command, type...
`setrank [(rank)] - substituting the command you want to set and the rank you want to set it to.
Example - If you want to set the rank for the 'kill command so that only Gods/Owners can kill, type...
``setrank 'kill 3

Some Commands you may want to set
Authoring - You cannot control access to authoring type functions like changing the background picture for a room, but you can use setrank to accomplish the same thing.
Step 1 - Turn off authoring by typing `authoring off
Step 2 - Use setrank to make it so only gods/owners can turn authoring back on, by typing `setrank 'authoring 3
Now if you are not authoring, leave authoring off and you will not have to worry about your wizards running amok changing your palace around.

Other Authoring commands you might want to restrict
`delete - deleting a room
`duplicate - duplicating a room
`uplist and `downlist- rearranging the order of rooms in the room list
